Greeting
A few like minded individuals met through their involvement in JCI International. Which started in the US almost 100 years ago and has grown to chapters across the world. The Cary Jaycees in North Carolina, United States and the Dansoman Jaycees in Ghana, Africa, came together and a few participants found a larger purpose. That purpose is the Empowerment Express Foundation. An organization to help orphans in the Cape Coast area of Ghana to receive basic needs but more importantly be given a stronger foundation to grow up and become contributing members of society. Not only giving themselves a better life but also bettering their community. We understand that we may need to start with some smaller goals but we feel it’s important to give the complete vision. There are many orphans in the Cape Coast area with no where to be sheltered, fed, clothed, taught, and loved. It is our intention to grow bigger but at a minimum we want to have a location where 15-20 children are permanently housed. Then there will be a space for other children to come for food and clothing. In addition to making sure they have access to basic education we also want to provide them with skills they can use to give themselves a better life. Things such as access to education about a trade, helping them carve a path to gain higher education, and teaching them basic life skills.
It is our intention to also help children in the US by helping to bridge the gap in getting connected with already established programs. Holding things such as resource fairs to make sure they are aware what programs are already available to them. In addition we will provide scholarships for children exiting the foster care system. These scholarships are meant to help them start off on the right foot by helping with basic living needs in addition to helping with higher education cost. At this time we do not plan to create a US based facility as we think the resources are already there. We will just help them amplify their mission.
